23. How much energy can the ROC produce from a tonne of garbage?

The ROC can produce a considerable amount of energy.

Municipal solid waste, on average contains about 1/3 of the energy of coal. This means that every 3 tonnes of municipal waste converted to energy by the ROC can displace one tonne of coal that would have otherwise been burnt to generate electricity.

To put this another way, waste from an average garbage truck can replace one tonne of coal.
